Forest-Fed goat

Using VSU's pioneering Mobile Slaughter Unit (the first in the state of Virginia!) we humanely harvest our own animals under VDACS and USDA inspection on the farm.  This eliminates the stress of transport and unfamiliar places and people, and provides you with tastier, ethical meat.

Being able to harvest the animals that we have lovingly raised ourselves, on our own farm is extremely important to us and connects us more deeply to the meat that we produce.  With the mobile slaughter unit we can ensure the best treatment for our animals while maintaining the highest standards for health and safety.

Our goats are raised with constant access to their natural forages of tree-leaves and browse.  These deep-rooted forest forages are rich in the minerals and nutrients that goats need to flourish, and create delicious nutrient-dense meat for our customers.

heritage CHICKENS Pullets and roasting birds

I hatch chickens from my breeding flock of Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds.  This cross makes what's called a "black sexlink" I prefer the term "flame hens!"

I sell the hens as pullets (young laying hens) and the roosters as whole roasting birds.

These heritage breed chickens take 5 months to grow instead of 2 months (standard for Cornish-cross meat chickens raised by most producers).  They live a full life, and are old enough to be free-ranging and actively foraging for several months before they are harvested.  Though this costs more in care and feed for the farmer, the meat is much more flavorful and nutritious.

fence-free eggs

My small flock of heritage breed laying hens free-range across the farm every day!  I supplement them with non-GMO feed from Sunrise Farms in Stuarts Draft, but they are active foragers.  Favorite foods include cow pie grubs, clover, apples, tomatoes, watermelon...

I have a limited supply of eggs available each week get on my email list to know what's available.

ecological veggies

Our vegetables are grown for the homestead with farm-generated fertility (read composted manure, whey, hay etc. etc...).  We specialize in winter storage crops to keep your winter diet nutritious and local!  Sweet potatoes and winter squash are our specialties.  Join our email list to stay in the loop or check what vegg we have on our product list spreadsheet.
