farm philosophy

We grow animals and plants with reverence for their unique natures and needs.  Our animals are born and raised on their home pastures here at the foot of Bingham Mountain.  Something that sets us apart from other farms is that we breed, raise, and harvest all of our meat animals on-farm.  We have a deep commitment to making slaughter as stress-free and humane as possible.

We use farm generated fertility (read: composted manure, cover crops, and whey) from our goats, chickens, turkeys, hogs, and cows to feed our plants.  We strive to reduce plastic use by working with living and organic mulches.

We grow slow, delicious, nutrient dense food for our community always putting love of the land first.

farm dwellers

Our hill farm is home to 4 humans, 3 dogs, 4 jersey cows, and lots of goats.  Also living here are heritage breed geese and goslings, heritage breed turkeys and poults, and a flock of gorgeous and sassy heritage breed chickens and chicks.

Fiona Balestrieri is full-time farmer and milkmaid.  She specializes in letting crops go to seed to improve pollinator habitat and talking your ear off about natural cheese-making.

Seth Swingle is farmhand-of-all-trades specializing in building stout wooden structures, tending a growing fleet of fruit trees, and scratching goats.

Seth and Fiona also play music both separately and together, on farm and off farm! Hear some of that here.... sethswingle.com and fionaagnes.com

Seth's parents Ruth and Craig made this mountain their home in the 80s.  They enrich our understanding of this place with tales of the past.  Craig is our resident contractor and building expert.  Ruth is a natural naturalist, flower grower, and has recently become our beekeeper!
